LIVEABOARD ASSOCIATION ENDORSEMENTS 43rd District Democratic Endorsement. Dear Commissioner Belcher: Below is a resolution supporting Liveaboard Boaters on Lake Union that was passed by the 43rd District Democrats at our May 16 meeting. As instructed by the membership, I am forwarding it on to you for your consideration. Whereas boaters have been living on their boats in the Seattle area for almost 100 years; and, Whereas the community of boaters adds color, charm and character to the region's atmosphere; and, Whereas liveaboard boaters act as watchdogs on the waterfronts where they live and have adopted a stewardship over the water and land environments around them; and, Whereas the Commissioner of Public Lands office has stated that boats on Lake Union and other locales are clogging public waterways and limiting public access; and, Whereas the Commissioner of Public Lands office has undertaken a campaign to remove all liveaboards whose boats are on water over Department of Natural Resources land in the state, though the boats may remain where they are; and, Whereas those evictions include an immediate ouster of liveaboards on thirty vessels on Lake Union, Therefore be it resolved that the 43rd District Democrats go on record in support of the liveaboard boaters' effort to fight their eviction notices and remain on Lake Union, and request that the Commissioner of Public Lands initiate a process and develop clear guidelines for shoreline use for living purposes. |
