Don & Joanne Stonehill
Don & Joanne Stonehill have lived on board their 42' Hunter sailboat, "Shiloh" since moving here from Oregon. They are into their 8th year as a liveaboard and have been moored at the same marina on Lake Union since locating in Seattle. They have been married 43 years, have two sons, Gary & Mike, who both live with their families in Sacramento, CA. Both of their mothers are still living in Klamath Falls, OR.
Don retired from 36 years in the television and radio broadcasting business. He served on the Oregon Broadcasters Association Board of Directors, as well as the Oregon Snowmobile Association for 8 years. While in broadcasting they also owned a boat sales and service business. During the winter months, they would switch to selling and servicing snowmobiles and downhill skis. Their sons worked with them in the venture. Don graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and Broadcast Journalism. Don has been involved in racing most of his life, having raced both motorcycles and snowmobiles, in both stock and modified classes. He was named Oregon Snowmobiler of The Year in the late 70's. Don was always involved in community affairs. He was instrumental in helping start a 108 acre facility for abused, battered and homeless kids, called The Kleos Childrens Community. He still serves on their board. It has been in operation since 1987. Info on same is available on their web site. Joanne partnered with Don in their business which they sold in 1986. Don & Joanne now own a factory sales rep. organization, representing 13 companies. They are very active in their church, and Don continues to do announcing for Casey Treat Ministries, broadcast on the TBN Network, which is televised daily into some 80 million homes worldwide. Don also has a hobby of building model boats, and currently has 3 remote controlled vessels....(none of which have anyone living on board.)
They have throughly enjoyed the lifestyle of sailing and living on board their vessel. They have considered possible extended cruising in the big water, but still have too much to do here inland. Working with the liveaboard community has been a treasure and of extreme value.
